Over the past two decades, people all across North America have rediscovered the pleasures of fresh, flavourful local food. This book celebrates the farmers and herb gardeners, seed sellers and greenhouse growers, cheesemakers, chocolate makers, restaurateurs and chefs who are in the forefront of this movement in British Columbia.
Discover the stories behind such successful companies as winemakers Venturi-Schulze and the Glorious Garnish and Seasonal Salad Company. Go shopping for Chinese vegetables with Stephen Wong, mushroom picking with Bill Jones and foraging back alleys with James Barber. Farm Folk, City Folk is also jammed with practical tips on everything from growing edible flowers to organizing a farmers' market. Throughout, top chefs such as Sinclair Philip, Karen Barnaby, Daryle Ryo Nagata and many others contribute original recipes using local ingredients.
Farm Folk, City Folk is a book for passionate cooks, back-yard vegetable gardeners, weeding farmers and food lovers of all stripes. Proceeds from book sales go to the FarmFolk/CityFolk Society, a coalition committed to the development of a just and sustainable food system.
