Food and Agricluture Education

Knowledge Pantry

The knowledge pantry is our collective knowledge of the food system that we disseminate to folks through email, phone and on our website. We are the first point of contact for many people looking for information on our local food system. This is a very time intensive service to the public. The demographic that contacts us for information runs from government officials to media to students to seniors.

Community Outreach

We have an amazing Community Outreach Team who organize and staff information booths at community events, answering questions and engaging in conversations about food security, BC's food system, and FarmFolk's work. Our staff also participates on a variety of committees and boards such as the Metro Vancouver Agricultural Advisory Committee, Vancouver Food Policy Council, BC Food Systems Network, Colony Farm Parks Association, and Local Food First. In addition staff contribute regularly to publications including TreeHugger, The Tyee, The Vancouver Courier, along with a quarterly column, Field Notes, in Edible Vancouver Magazine.

Library

Our resource library contains hundreds of sustainable food and agriculture related books and videos/DVDs that are available on loan to our members far and wide. Often, they invite members of the community over to watch the DVDs and videos they borrow.

Newsletter

We produce a seasonal newsletter for our members which highlights our current projects, profiles farms and chefs along with current issues in agriculture in BC. The newsletter is an opportunity for volunteers to research and write relevant articles. In addition to distributing our newsletter to our members, we distribute over 500 copies to non-members.

E-bulletins

We send out weekly bulletins by email to over 700 subscribers. The bulletins contain information about food and agriculture events, classes and workshops, jobs, news, and links. To subscribe, send a blank email message to ffcflist-subscribe@googlegroups.com
