Executive Director - FarmFolk/CityFolk

The FarmFolk/CityFolk Society is seeking a part-time* Executive Director to lead the strategic, financial, and community efforts that will realize the vision and mandate of this not-for-profit organization.

FarmFolk/CityFolk Society works with farm & city to cultivate a local, sustainable food system. We develop and operate projects that provide access to & protection of foodlands; that support local growers and producers; and that educate, celebrate and communicate with local food communities.

Since 1993, FF/CF has worked with other organizations, government, learning institutions and the public to achieve its public mandate, and is now at a turning point in its evolution. In these 17 years, public awareness surrounding sustainable food systems has grown immensely, thanks in great part to the work of FF/CF and its supporters. We are seeking an Executive Director who will take FF/CF to the next stage in the organization’s development. If you are collaborative, creative, resilient, and up for a challenge … this job is for you. You will help build the Executive Director role, the organization and BC’s sustainable food system.

Responsibilities:

The first defining exercise will be to establish and support an immediate strategic direction for the organization and a long term vision for its future. In addition, the Executive Director is responsible for:

  • Fundraising, budget and finance
  • Program development and administration
  • Staff and board relations
  • Internal and external communications

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and management skills and experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience in the not-for-profit, charitable, or similar field, with a strong background in strategy and visioning
  • Experience with fundraising, grant writing, donor stewardship, and program management
  • Ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders in a positive manner, with superior interpersonal verbal and written communications skills
  • Familiarity with or understanding of charitable law and federal, provincial and local not-for profit policies
  • Interest in or desire to gain knowledge about building a sustainable food system
  • Imagination, vision, leadership and a passion for furthering the vision of the food community regarding sustainability, access and education
  • Familiarity with financial systems and preparation of annual reports and audit materials
  • Fluency with Macintosh computers is an asset.

*This position is 3-4 days per week, with the option to expand to full-time, pending continued growth of the organization.

Hourly Rate: $22-25
Anticipated Start Date: June 1
